overall Jasper could easily be considered the most chilling of the Cullen family. He does not possess the brawny bulk of his brother, Emmett, but it does not make him any less powerful. He is towards the taller end of average, filled with lean muscles that give him a very predatory, feline grace. He has been described several times as being "the one who looks like he is in pain", his lips usually held in a tight line, his demeanor distant. As the newest to the vegetarian way of life, his thirst for human blood does indeed put him in a great deal of pain, searing his throat day after day that he puts himself through this torture. But as a military man he is very disciplined and though this makes him a bit stiff, it may be the only thing that keeps him from killing.

Jasper's eyes are the same gold of his adopted siblings', but they seem to be permanently cast over with a film of orange, just that little bit less yellow than the other Cullens, a final vestige of his former life. His eyebrows are dark and straight, possessing only a hint of a peak, helping to continue the cold, stiff appearance. His nose is narrow and straight, leading to a pair of lips that are slightly plump and curve into a remarkably cat-like smile due to the permanent pout of his lower lip. When his lips are relaxed, it seems that he is always pursing them, sometimes in thought, sometimes in anger. His choice in clothing is simplistic, opting for plain-colored button-downs and solid long sleeve shirts, usually in darker hues, as if to remain unnoticed. Almost invisible to the human eye are the hundreds of crescent-shaped scars, silvery in color, that blend in well to his icy pale skin, but to another vampire he is truly battle-scarred and it makes him look even more dangerous to know that he has lived through so many attacks.

OVERALL Jasper has been a quiet man for a long time, deeply troubled by the experiences he has gone through in his life. Of course, becoming a vampire is a big change for anyone but he in particular had a rough start to his immortal years. While his military training taught him to be cold, calculating, his particular ability allowed him to feel every emotion from those he fought and killed. It made him slightly bitter until he found Alice and she helped him reconcile his wrongdoing. He is not quite as dedicated to the vegetarian lifestyle as his family, preferring the taste and nutrition of human blood to that of animals and it is harder for him than any of the others to resist the aromatic scent of their intended prey.

In regards to his family and scarce friends, he is extremely loyal. He perhaps does not have the same closeness to his siblings that the others do, having all been created by Carlisle, nor the same relationship as Alice, and there are many days that he knows he stays with the Cullens just for her. He is not flamboyant with his affection, preferring the quiet understanding that he and Alice have to the whirlwind romance that Emmett and Rosalie seem to be stuck in. Born of a different time, he has been raised with different morals and he will always be a perfect Southern gentleman at heart, especially to Alice.

HISTORY Jasper was born as Jasper Allen Whitlock, son of a blacksmith and his wife, in Houston, TX in 1844. He grew up in the culture of the South, learning to be a gentlemen despite his less than fortunate social station. He was always taught to respect his elders and never to be improper with a lady for fear of tarnishing her reputation. He was a particularly charming young man, being able to easily influence his peers and possessing a natural aura of leadership. When he was 17 he smooth-talked his way into the Confederate Army and rose quickly to the rank of Major at the age of 20, making him the youngest major in the Confederate Army in Texas. It was as he was riding from Galveston that he encountered a trio of unearthly beautiful women. It is hard to remember anything but the pain of that encounter, the liquid fire consuming his veins as the venom coursed through his system.

When he awoke, he was Maria's puppet, though he didn't know this until much later. Through the years, Maria learned that she could use him to train other newborns in hopes of creating an army capable of securing a large territory for herself. When her sisters tried to turn against her, she ordered Jasper to kill them. At the time he thought he was in love with her and doing her bidding was not something he questioned. He discovered that he was able to manipulate the emotions of the other newborns, calming them or exciting them as necessary, making him even more valuable to Maria and leading to her promoting him to her second in command. But the worst part of his job was disposing of the newborns who had lost their strength and their usefulness. He could feel their fear, their panic, and it is something he's never quite forgiven himself for.

During his time with Maria he became friends with Peter, a newborn that she began to keep. When Peter ran off with Charlotte, another newborn that they were supposed to kill, he covered for him and didn't stop him. After a few years they returned, bringing tales of the Northern vampires who coexisted peacefully, and he left with them. Jasper did not stay with Peter and Charlotte for very long, however, soon becoming unhappy and parting company with them. He later wandered into Philadelphia, where he met Alice in a diner. It was nearly love at first sight, as she told him she had been waiting for him and he could only apologize like the gentleman he had once been before Maria had turned him into a savage.

With Alice's special gift they were able to locate Carlisle and his family who fed off of animal blood instead of human blood. It was a strange idea to him, one that had never occurred to him, but one that provided him a way to avoid feeling the terror of his human victims as he killed them. It has always been hard for him to resist human blood, having never been trained to control or regulate his thirst. But he fit into the family well and began to take his adoptive sister, Rosalie's, last name in public, due to the similarities between them. In Forks they pose as twins, having been adopted together by Carlisle and Esme. Through the years, he has legally married Alice once, unlike the many times that Rosalie and Emmett have wed, but his devotion to her is undying. He helps the Cullens by securing identity documents for them via a lawyer named J. Jenks, a man who took over for Jasper's previous business partner. Jenks is terrified by Jasper, who has made their partnership fearful out of necessity, knowing that fear will keep him quiet and keep him loyal.
