Alec did not know where his master was at but he had a pretty good idea if he was anywhere to be found he would not care if Alec took a few lesser guards with him to Alaska. It was the home of the Denali Coven. They were allies with the Olympic Coven and Alec figured that if you want to get information on a coven you could scout it's allies and see what it may bring. So Alec gathered about 2 or three lesser ranking guards and then they disappeared out of the underground structure that was their home. They reappeared along the boundary of Alaska and whatever place was on the other side. Alec knew the location of the Denali's it was quite a ways to the house. But they did not want to raise suspicions. So they waited til dark and they walked along the small villages and towns that was between them and the Denali's
One of the guard's asked Alec" You think it is wise that we are here with only 4 guards against however many they are. Alec said Then you surely must not know the Denali's they are smaller than the Cullen's so yes I think we will be alright. " They walked a few more kilometers and they ran into a vampire scent. Alec stopped and said" Ahh we have company and I am sure it is not a Denali. It is probably a nomad or a Cullen. They have been known to wander up here before."

It had been a year since the last time Carlisle had been to Alaska to visit the Denalis, work in Forks Hospital kept him busy but the occasional opening he had to visit them was refreshing, spending only enough time with them to keep current with them. He took the fastest route possible to reach Denali, Alaska to be allowed as much time within a few days as he could before taking the return trip. He couldn’t be away from the hospital for too long because he was the head doctor on staff. He was on call, though he was confident he needn’t worry for at least a day or two.
It wasn’t long after he crossed the border into Alaska that he began to smell a familiar scent, a scent he hadn’t picked up in several years. It brought memories to his mind, most of them disturbing considering the nature of who they were about. Then they came into sight, four figures dressed in dark robes, one of them shorter than the others with the obvious build of one of the twins. Carlisle came to a halt some twenty yards from them and analyzed each of their builds and potential intentions. Three of them were of relatively equal height and build while the short one was the most recognizable to him. When they were perfectly visible to him Carlisle recognized Alec immediately and came to a complete halt.
For a moment he considered the worst, what could the Denali’s have done to invite the attention of the Volturi? Had they, strict abiders of the law, have broken it again? Or was Aro sending his guard on an assigned exploration? Slowly Carlisle assessed his surroundings, moved closer to them with the intention of understanding their purpose. The Volturi were not ones to act without a reason.

After they had talked amongst themselves Alec realized that even though Carlisle was looking right at him but from a distance He was not moving. Alec did not know what kind of strategy this was . Maybe it was a hoping if i stay still they might go away strategy but that would not work. Alec raised his hand and motioned the lesser guards to follow him. Alec made it to where Carlisle was standing at." I saw that you were just standing there not sasying anything or doing anything. Did you not see us or were you hoping we were not really there?"The lesser ranking guards chuckled and then stopped when Alec raised his hand up . Alec asked" So I take it that you have no more work to do and that is why you are here. I am thinking that you are wondering why we are here?"
Alec looked around at the woods around them and said "I have always wanted to know something about you and my master. Why did you choose this life over the life that you could have had? I mean killing animals just for their blood. How cruel can you be? I know you would ask the same of me about killing humans for their blood but that is entirely a different story.I do not see why my master still considers you a friend after all that you have put him through."Alec stopped and a guard leaned over and whsipered something to Alec. Alec backed away and then said" If you must know why we are here it was to draw you out so we could have this talk. I knew that this would draw something or someone out.No Master does not know about this mainly because i do not know where Master is at."

As they approached Carlisle shifted his posture from defensive to completely passive. He saw no threat from the Volturi without just cause, his faith in Aro’s reasonability was strong and he would have known before leaving Forks if the ancient vampire’s intentions were to destroy him or his family. With a welcoming expression Carlisle nodded and clasped his hands behind his back in a formal pose. His thoughts quickly spun around possible responses as Alec spoke, his tone almost accusatory but not a far throw from what he expected from a member of the Volturi. Of course, he continued to watch the other members of the guard that stood behind Alec and kept his eyes locked on him.
“I apologize, I was lost in thought, I was not expecting to see the Volturi this far from Volterra. Though I can assure you there is no offense, the interaction is most welcome.” Carlisle ceased his explanation with that, he did not wish to overstep his bounds and come across as rude. The twins were still a mystery to him, he had spent most his time with the Volturi examining the peculiar life styles of the ancient leaders Aro, Marcus and Caius rather than the guards themselves. He was well aware of their gifts but their personalities were still a foreign script he hoped to decipher in time. The limit to his knowledge of them was that they were in the adolescent stage of development, frozen at a fairly young age and that they were much devoted to one another.
He ceased his though processing for a few moments to register Alec’s inquiry, the complexity of it astounding to him. He was clearly more aware of Carlisle’s time spent in Volterra than seemed apparent. Carlisle didn’t shift any of his posture save his brows to indicate curiosity and attention before deliberating on a response. The question of dietary action and even the act of abandoning the Volturi with little reasoning save their crude lifestyle though making it sound as though he’d done far more than that. With a subtle pursing of his lips he processed the words and sought out the most suitable answer to give the boy.
“I have no wish to harm humans, or take human life, the act of drinking animal blood to me is no different than hunting them for meat like humans. My relationship with Aro is one of mutual curiosity, respect and formality. I do not question his morals and he does not question mine. I may have my feelings about his view on human life, but I will not openly voice them unless he insists.” Carlisle began and momentarily paused to consider continued approach to the subject. “Please, do know I mean no insult to Aro or any of the Volturi coven, I respect your actions and intentions. Is there anything else you would like to know, Alec?”

As words flowed out of Carlisle's mouth Alec could see that Carlisle was trying his best to stay civil and composed. Alec had been impressed with this vampire who was on good speaking terms with master Aro. Alec held this in high regard mainly because that was a rare thing to have in your favor. Alec decided to stand there and listen to what Carlisle had to say before he decided to act on it. "Oh I had wondered why you would just stand there and not do anything. I figured something was wrong .We were sent here because of an old foe come back and threatened the whole vampire world."
Alec did not know if it was wise to let Carlisle know the real reason they were there but he figured it was a gesture of good faith." The only reasons I let you in on that reason was to warn you that you have another coven to worry about. The second reason is another good faith gestures." Then he backed away and listened to what Carlisle said and then smirked"So What have the humans ever done to deserve the safety of vampires not drinking their blood. They have always treated us evil and tried to kill us. So why not return the evil deed and wipe them out? If you and my master have a mutual respect thing between you guys why is everything turning out bad?"

For a moment Carlisle was caught off guard. Alec's opinions were stronger than he had expected, his hate of humans apparently extreme. He had to think a moment about what Aro had told him about the twins, and he felt sorrowful about how they were treated, but he didn't think it was possible for it to generate such hate, but then again he was aware that vampires were prone to strong emotion. He considered Alec's feelings and looked at him once more thoughtfully before considering what to say to him. He felt it pertinent to settle the point but not in an overly direct fashion. He knew what it meant to insult the Volturi, what it meant to threaten them and he wasn't about to make that mistake.
"Alec, I understand your opinion but I don't believe taking aggressive action would be the proper course. They view us as evil because of what we're capable of, however I wish to remain different along with my family. Human's are fearful of that which they can not understand, now that I am a vampire I understand why. But I do not blame them." He took a breath to satiate his senses and gave his response a few moments to sink in. He did not wish to discard human life like Aro, he would not be like his father, it was the reason he chose his path to begin with. "I choose to help them because it makes me feel more at ease about what I am. I prefer to help them, not hurt them." He didn't know whether or not Alec would understand, he was a member of the Volturi guard, his existence to defend the Volturi. Carlisle knew their views only went so far.
Standing completely still he took occasional breaths simply to keep up his senses. He couldn't help but feel a little uneasy with the three other guardsman standing around Alec, watching him. He decided it was a good moment to proceed with another question that plagued his mind now. Why were they here? An enemy? What enemy? He focused his attention on Alec again and primed his thoughts. "You say an enemy. What do you mean? Who could possibly provoke the Volturi to send the guard out hunting? Is it something I or the Denalis should know about?."

Alec had been growing agitated with the simple fact that he did not know where his master and his sister were at. He had to do something to occupy his time alone and that is why he had come to Alaska . Well it was the main reason because he did not care for anyone else's opinons because they did not matter but this vampire that they happened to stumble upon made Alec think twice. It was mainly because his master and that vampire were mutual friends even if they did not see eye to eye on a lot of things. Even though Alec did not know the whereabouts of his master he would not do anything to this vampire that would bring shame to his master. " Carlisle what would you have us do then?Viewing us as evil and trying to burn us at the stake is two entrely different things. I guess you would not know how that would feel huh? They do not deserve my pity and they never will but maybe if they did not do that then I would have never met master Aro and be what I am today."
Alec was trying his best to keep his cool but what was just said by Carlisle was pushing it very much." so you do not like being a vampire? What in your human life would make you hate being a vampire so much. I guess if you had something rather than nothing like I did then maybe that would be a good reason. The enemy you guys should watch out for is the Romanians. They are like us in the fact that they also drink from humans but they do not like us with a passion so that may be something in your favor . I would not doubt it because we are not that high in anyone's books."
